Familiarity does breed contempt

Posted by: bullishmoves  /  Category: politics

The latest polls show that people are getting fed of seeing Obama’s face splashed across the pages of newspapers and in the tv screens and in the internet.

A Pew Research Center poll released Wednesday found that since January, Americans think Obama’s visibility has overshadowed John McCain 76 percent to 11 percent. The survey, conducted via telephone interviews on 1,000 adults shows 48 percent of those questioned think there is too much media coverage of the presumptive Democratic nominee, and only 10 percent said there is too little.

On the other hand, people seem to be looking for fresh info on John McCain.  I guess familiarity does breed contempt.  Obama does know how to play the press to his advantage, or that’s what he thought.  When he was competing with Hillary, he seemed to be the one getting little coverage, now that he is one step away from being a history-making US president, he has a press junket everywhere and people are getting tired of hearing or seeing anything about him.  Not to mention his wife and his kids are also on every family and woman-oriented magazine.

But he can’t stop being on the news, November is nearing and he needs to get his message across.  The irony is that even if he gets so much exposure, people still don’t really have a clear idea on his policies unlike with McCain’s, maybe because he has a tendency to change his positions like every other day and the press treats it as breaking news.  His attachment to being always on the news is becoming like a typical couple relationship, where the couples grow apart inspite constant togetherness.

Wish the elections would be tomorrow

I am for everything that will resolve our current main concerns.  The colossally-high gas prices, the mortgage problems, the health care system.  I also know that a change in the people in the White House is probably the best solution for these daily, grave concerns.  But the road to that solution has taken it’s toll on our lives in the way we didn’t expected.

The bickering between Obama and McCain has turned from sensible throwing of issues to just plain spatting dirt towards each other.  It’s just so disgusting.  Whenever they have speaking engagements, instead of drawing up their plans for how they will enforce the policies this country, they make fun or make ridicule of each other.  Their websites contain videos or arguments showing how bad the other person is.

With all these situations.  I wish that we have the elections tomorrow.  At least, part of this will be resolved and we can go and move on for the better.

3 worst car names in the history

Posted by: bullishmoves  /  Category: Reviews, Thoughts

Just like people, vehicles have names too. And those names often mean something. It could either be some sort of feature of that vehicle, or what that vehicle stands for. Marketers for different car companies would have to invest a lot of time when it comes to coming up with names for vehicles because aside from it having to be something that says something about the car, it has to make some sort of impact to the public. The vehicle name has to be something smooth people will remember.

Since there have been a lot of vehicles produced in our history, it is only natural that there will be vehicle names that were just really bad. Some names were so bad that the vehicle itself did not market well. Here are just a few of those poor vehicles which were given really bad names:
http://www.autospectator.com/uploads/Volkswagen/2007/Touareg/VW_TouaregAdventure.jpg
1. Volkswagen Touareg
This vehicle produced by Volkswagen has one of the weirdest names ever. It would even be safe to assume that a lot of people would not even know how to pronounce this, except maybe the ones who actually know what a Touareg means (if the word even actually exists).
The image “http://www.seriouswheels.com/pics-1970-1979/1976-AMC-Gremlin-X-Package-custom-sy.jpg” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors.
2. AMC Gremlin
Does the movie Gremlins sound familiar to anyone? In that movie, Gremlins are small and ugly creatures that cause chaos everywhere. Regardless of how this vehicle looks, would one actually want to own a car called the Gremlin?
http://www.chuckstoyland.com/potpourri/conceptcars/generalmotors/PONTIAC%20Concept/66%20Pontiac%20Banshee.jpg
3. Pontiac Banshee
The term banshee is defined as a female spirit usually seen as an omen of death and messenger from the Underworld. It’s pretty obvious everyone would agree that having a car named after a creature like that is a bit scary. Just imagine a person named Banshee!

3 loser activities people did when the net was young

Posted by: bullishmoves  /  Category: Thoughts, people, technology

For most of us, the internet is not a new place to play around with. It has been existing for a long time now but the number of users before the year 2000 was low compared to now. Can you remember the things you did when the internet just started? Do you feel like a loser doing those now? I bet you wouldn’t do these now:
http://www.guestbooks4free.com/niet_kopieerbaar/demo_previews.jpg
1. Signing Guest Books

Yes! The more signatures, the more popular you are! Crap, I still remember logging on to Mirc and soliciting signature in #teens channel! We also employ other tactics like the annoying private messaging move. You ask "CTC?" then "Asl" then "Can you sign my guestbook at…" Those were the loser days!

It actually evolved now to facebook wall, friendster testimonials and myspace messages. Still the same guestbook thingy, only in a different way.
http://www.georgiaseitz.com/mirc01.gif
2. Chat clients like Mirc

Can you remember this? I bet you could! You would even beg for @ops (operator) status so you could play God! You would be respected in real life because your friends would be afraid that you would "kick" them out from the chat room for their shitty chat up lines ! At times, you would just park your nicks so no one would steal your nickname and your room would not be empty. Waste of time.
http://www.pando.com/files/Hotmail-screenshot-1.jpg
3. Hotmail

Yes, if you don’t have one, you were obsolete. Everyone wanted to get a free e-mail address since most companies charge rates for owning one and I am sure, for once in your life, you also owned one of those weird (cool user names at that time) user names people use as pseudonyms. 2cool4u@hotmailcom, hotgirl@yahoo.com etc. then, here comes the time you are applying for a job, and you put that email in your resume. How turn off can that be?

In a decade or so, I think the things we do now like, blogging, funny video uploads and social networking sites would sound lame already. Are you ready to be in the lame list again?

3 of the most watched influential commercials

Posted by: bullishmoves  /  Category: Thoughts, commercials, management

As everybody would already be familiar with, TV commercials or advertisements are short programs that are paid for by different organizations to convey different messages and despised by TV viewers for wasting their time. Naturally, it is important for TV commercials to be catchy, for its message to stick to the viewer’s minds, and for it to be considered influential. This is one of the famous mediums to make a product known that is considered inside the big thee (Tri-Media – TV, print and radio) Here are a few aired TV commercials that could be considered influential or effective:

1. Macbook Air

This TV commercial, although simple, really emphasized the best feature of the product they are advertising. In this case, the thinness and lightness of Macbook Air. Anyone who is not familiar with this product, and who would see this commercial for the first time would probably be interested just by seeing it on TV. Also, the Apple brand skyrocketed from the 1984 superbowl 1 minute - multimillion dollar commercial that aired only once. Watch the video below: (Read the book buzzmarketing and see why this is the most influential advertisement of all time!)

2. Pepsi Commercial (Maximum Taste No Sugar)

The Pepsi TV commercial is different, and therefore interesting. The whole thing does not really say anything about the product. It is some kind of underground - no branding at first and It just shows people acting crazy all throughout. But interesting because it makes people curious about the product, hence you would no that no branding but delivering a message is effective.

3. Honda Ad

Watching this TV commercial for the first few minutes, one would probably not instantly know that the product being advertised is a Honda Accord. But after watching the whole thing, one of the first things one would probably say is that the commercial is really different and innovative. It is definitely a different way of showing off the features of the product.

There are tons (literally) of other ads that can be seen whether on prime time or the internet. It actually doesn’t matter if your product is a brake fluid, shampoo or an adult toy. What is important is to make a connection to the viewer for it to stick to people’s minds. And with the list above, it is pretty clear that there are many ways to be able to achieve it. One could either center on the best product feature, to be innovative in presenting the product, to simply just do crazy things, to make viewers curious, or even add some kind of catchy music. Either way, what’s important is to make people remember it for brand recognition, and in the end, buy or via word of mouth, spread the product.

3 unconventional ways of using money

Posted by: bullishmoves  /  Category: management, money, people, work

It is sad how other people use their money. For those who have a lot, they use it in whichever way they like. They buy properties, gems and in one way or another, if they are engaged in a business, they most probably had experienced using their money to work for them. No, this is not what Rich Dad Poor Dad author, Robert Kiyosaki is telling us. Aside from buying goods and services, do you know that there are 3 other ways people can use their money?
The image “http://www.cartoonstock.com/lowres/ksm0075l.jpg” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors.
1. Money to make other people do what they are supposed to do.

This is the part where employers pay their employees. Nothing wrong with this. This is actually what Robert Kiyosaki partly means when he says “Let your money work for you.” You pay them because you know your time is not worth what they are doing and in large quantities, you can exponentially multiply your growth.
http://img224.imageshack.us/img224/3075/prostitutionndql4.jpg
2. Money to make other people do what they DO NOT want to do.

An example here is, giving your children money for doing chores. Hey! Only a few kids are willing to do household chores without pay. I know that you can relate with me here. They would rather play and have fun than carry these responsibilities at home. Prostitution is another example. They sell their bodies for a living.
http://img88.imageshack.us/img88/9376/briberyqt8.jpg
3. Money to make other people do what they are NOT SUPPOSED to do.

Here comes the bad part and this is what I mentioned above the intro. By this, I mean bribery. Yes, it can of course go to your advantage or else, why would you do this, right? Remember, bribery is a sin and this can cause a lot of trouble than the conventional method of you, really achieving what you want to possibly achieve.

There are only two ways to go. One is the right way and the other one left; the wrong way.

3 unfortunate memorable disasters before the 21st century

Posted by: bullishmoves  /  Category: Thoughts, events

Surely, everyone has encountered disasters in their lives. It can be as big as earthquakes, tornadoes, wildfires, bombings, or as small as accidents. And because of the many disasters that happen in people’s everyday lives, it would be quite possible that the others could have already been forgotten. But the worst disasters, no matter how long ago it has occurred, will always be remembered, most especially to those who have been directly affected by it.
http://www-tc.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/planecrash/images/minu-tenerifecrash7-l.jpg
1.    Ilyushhin IL-76 Cargo Plane Crash
Classified as one of the worst airline disasters, This disaster occurred last November 12, 1996. An Ilyushhin IL-76 Cargo Plane traveling from Kazakhstan collided with a Saudia 747, which resulted in about 349 casualties. After further investigation, it was later on proven that the accident was caused by the Kazakhstan crew ignoring instructions.
http://pubs.usgs.gov/pinatubo/ashcloud.jpg
2.    Mt Pinatubo Eruption
Mt Pinatubo is located in the Philippines, specifically in the intersection of the borders of the provinces Zambales, Tarlac and Pampanga. And last June 1991, Mt Pinatubo erupted, making it the largest eruption since the eruption of Mt. Helens in 1980. The eruption ejected about ten cubic kilometers of material and covered everything with “dust”. Mt. Pinatubo’s eruption was so strong, that its effects were felt worldwide! It killed about 300 people and left a lot of people homeless. And it doesn’t end there, because the eruption damaged a lot of land and left a lot of volcanic deposits that everytime it would rain, lahars would start, which actually covered and destroyed people’s homes and livelihood.
The image “http://walrus.wr.usgs.gov/tsunami/images/leadoff.gif” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors.
3.    Earthquake and Tsunami in Papua New Guinea
Because of a major earthquake that occurred in the Northern Coast of Papua New Guinea, one of the most destructive tsunamis that happened. The earthquake generated three successive tsunamis which hit last July 1998, just a few minutes after the said earthquake. And since there were no signs or warnings, the disaster left thousands of people dead, homeless or missing. A lot of villages were destroyed, and spits of land that disappeared.

People have to remember that it can be very hard to avoid disasters, as they can happen anytime, anywhere. And whether it is your fault or not, you can still become affected, or worst, become a direct victim. But even if this is the case, it wouldn’t hurt to be careful, to always be prepared, and to always consider others (so that hurting other people could be avoided).
From the list above, it is pretty clear that disasters can be classified as man-made or natural. It is pretty much clear that natural disasters are out of human being’s control. This is why it is important that everyone should all work together, and do what we can to try to avoid adding to this by doing things that can cause man-made disasters to occur. It would be good to keep in mind that though it is not obvious, everything that we do can and will always have an effect either to our environment or the other people, regardless of who they are.

Top 6 worst disasters of the 21st Century

Posted by: bullishmoves  /  Category: events

Disasters can be either fortuitous or man-made. But either way, all disasters have bad effects on the environment and mankind. The word ‘disaster’ was actually derived from the Middle French désastre and from Old Italian disastro which both mean ‘star’. This is the reason why there are some people who believe that the word disaster came from astrology, that when the stars are positioned badly, bad things or disasters happen.

The following are a few of the disasters that have occurred in the 20th century:
http://www.programangels.org/presse/20-dollar-wtc.jpg
1. World Trade Center, New York
The World Trade Center in New York used to be referred to as the Twin Towers or the WTC. It used to be located at the heart of New York City’s financial district and contained almost 4% of Manhattan’s entire office inventory. But last September 11, 2001, terrorists brought it down by having suicidal commercial planes crash into it. The terrorists were triumphant in implementing their plan. The World Trade Center came rolling down, leaving about 4,500 casualties, and a lot of citizens emotional.

2. Wildfires in Southern California
Wildfires are caused by extremely hot and dry weather. Last October 2003, there were 13 wildfires that burned about 800,000 acres of land. This disaster left 22 people dead, destroyed about 3,500 structures and left an estimate of 100,000 people homeless.

3. Cyclone in Burma, Myanmar
Cyclone Nargis is considered the most terrible natural disaster in the history of Myanmar, the deadliest cyclone in the North Indian Ocean Basin and the 2nd deadliest cyclone of all time. Last May 2, 2008, this very same cyclone hit Myanmar and left at least 90,000 people dead and about 56,000 people missing. Since this is a very recent disaster and due to the lack of relief efforts, the number of dead people could reach to about a million.

4. Hurricane Katrina (2005)
This hurricane was recorded as the fifth deadliest hurricanes in the history of the United States, the sixth strongest Atlantic hurricane and the third strongest hurricane on record. Also considered as a tropical storm, hurricane Katrina hit last August 2005 and caused severe destruction, most especially in New Orleans, Louisiana area where it was recorded that the place had the most property damage and dead people.

5. Southeast Asia Tsunami
Again, one of the worst of the worsts, with an epicenter off the west coast of Sumatra, Indonesia. Waves reached as high as 100 feet! This is actually the deadliest natural disaster in the history. The earthquake set two more record by giving off a magnitude 9.3 in the seismograph and in terms of the longest duration of faulting ever observed.

6. 2008 Sichuan Earthquake
Also known as the Great Sichuan Earthquake and the Wenchuan Earthquake, was measured at about 7.9 M which occurred last May 12, 2008 in the Sichuan province of China. This earthquake was so strong that it was actually felt in nearby countries! As of the most recent news, there are already 69,196 dead people, 374,176 injured, 18,379 still missing and left about 4.8 to 11 million people homeless. This is a lot, taking into consideration that there are only about 15 million people who lived in the area.

This is all part of global warming taking effect and of course, a way of God punishing us. Take care of the environment and appreciate his blessings more. This is just for the 21st century. There are other also far worse disasters before.

5 rich and influential figures of the 21st century

Posted by: bullishmoves  /  Category: Thoughts, people, relax

Influence is defined as having the power to manipulate humanity, devoid of having to make use of too much effort or sometimes even instinctively. Similar to how elder siblings, parents or close friends would create an impact to an individual. The list below is a list of people who have influenced people all over the world (if not all, most) for dissimilar reasons and diverse ways. It can be for political, entertainment, technological, etc.
http://content.answers.com/main/content/wp/en/c/cd/Steve_Jobs_with_iMac.jpg
1. Steve Jobs
Steve Jobs is the co-founder, chairman and CEO of Apple. By this time and age, surely everyone would be familiar with Apple. For the advantage of those who don’t know, Apple is responsible for creating the worlds leading mp3 player right now, iPod. It is also responsible for iPhone, and for all the Macintosh products (like the now popular Mac Book Air – the envelope thin and d really light laptop).
http://66.49.151.193/George%20Bush%20flys.gif
2. George W. Bush
As everybody would already know, George W. Bush is the current president of the United States of America. We all know that this is the world’s most powerful position. Aside from this, he was made popular by him declaring the global War on Terrorism, ever since the terrorists attacked the World Trade Center in New York. His goal was to destroy Al Qaeda, a terrorist group led by Osama bin Laden. He was also the person responsible in ordering the invasion in Iraq, telling everyone that the country was in possession of weapons of mass destruction. Being the president of one of the most powerful countries in the world, he was able to influence many people to believe what he says, and to work to achieve his goals, for the common good.

3. Oprah Winfrey
Oprah Winfrey, made popular by her TV show The Oprah Winfrey Show is an African American television host and is considered the wealthiest African American in the 20th Century. She has influenced many people in the different topics she discusses in her shows, from literature, health, spirituality, celebrities, and life itself. She has also done plenty of charity work to help the needy, and her fellow African Americans. She created her own religion so do not be surprised when one day she will fall.
http://files.myopera.com/Mathilda/albums/43299/Sexy%20Angelina%20Jolie.jpg
4. Angelina Jolie
Surely, everyone would already know who Angelina Jolie is. Aside from just simply being a celebrity, she has made herself very popular, with adopting children from 3rd world countries, to being Brad Pitt’s woman, to bearing his child Shiloh, and doing charity work to help out 3rd world countries. She became a Goodwill Ambassador for the UN Refugee Agency. She has helped a lot of people living in poverty-stricken countries, and influenced many to do the same. She is a good role model with a good (not showy) heart. She deserves the fame she has now.
http://www.kimbrooke.com/graphics/bill-gates-impersonator.jpg
5. Bill Gates
Bill Gates is a famous American businessman, is considered the world’s 3rd richest person and is also the chairman of the well-known software company, Microsoft. He is admired by many as one of those that revolutionized the personal computer. Though he is very wealthy and does not ever need to worry about money, he never forgot his duties to the community. He would donate big amounts of money to charitable organizations and would devote his time and money in scientific research programs through his foundation called the Bill and Melinda Gates foundation founded in the year 2000.

Notice the common denominator here? They all have money. In our generation, money makes the world go round. Money of course, is also the root of all evil but, if you pray for guidance, you can put your money to good use. Influential people can influence a lot of people in diverse ways, from talk shows, to technology, charitable work, etc, and can be for both the good and the bad. One can begin as a nobody and, slowly make name by stepping up, while others are already in the position of power, which is why each and every step he makes in life is watched by everybody. But either way, one does not have to be popular or powerful to be influential. All of us can be influential in our own little ways.

3 unnecessary things we all want to have

Posted by: bullishmoves  /  Category: Thoughts, money, work

We all want something. As I wrote in my previous blog - what I want to have right now, I listed 3 things that I really wanted that time. Well, I still like those items until now. But wait, you have to realize first one thing. Do you really need to have those expensive things? Although this is easy to say, most of us has a little greed inside of us.

Here are 3 things what most of us wants to have badly but aren’t life necessities.

http://www.automotoportal.com/media/images/vijesti/060815002.jpg

1. Expensive cars

Yes, it can bring us prestige and fame but, do you really need that? If you ask me, I’d kill for a SUV like that but if you ask me if I’m going to buy one? Chances are, I wouldn’t. If you’ve read Robert Kiyosaki’s books - Rich Dad Poor Dad, that is one perfect example of a doodad. He defines Doodad as expenses that do not lead to financial freedom. Just get a car with four wheels and as long as it is running, then that would be ok. By the way, this is an additional, it also mustn’t be a gas guzzler.

http://www.southafricahotelsoffer.com/hotel/hotels/falcons_rest_guest_house.jpg

2. Vacation homes

I know, me too. Almost everyone of us dreamt of one day having our own vacation houses. May it be in the Bahamas or somewhere secluded where you can have the peace that you always wanted to have, it is very useless (IMO), to tell you the truth, we have one and that made me realize that it really is not worth it. I will tell you one reason. We have a beach vacation house. Everyone knows that sea water is salty, thus, things get rusted easily. Without you knowing, you will be needing to renovate again. My 8 year beach house was renovated twice already costing a third of the entire value already.

http://www.luxury-insider.com/blog/content/binary/vertu_diamond.jpg

3. Top of the line gadgets / electronics

I know that some of us have all the money to spend and I have no right to tell them how to spend their hard earned money. What I;m saying here is, you need not buy the latest release of mobile phone or laptop just for the sake of updating. Heck, I even doubt the mobile phone you own now is aged a decade. Just as an additional information, most tycoons do not even buy their own gadgets. It’s either given to them as a gift or they just really need it to be more productive. They became tycoons not because they spend money but because they know how to earn and save money.

Remember when buying expensive items, a dollar saved is also important. You wouldn’t have 1 million dollars if you only have $999,999.00
